BPW International History
The International Federation of Business and Professional Women (IFBPW now known as BPWI or “BPW International) was formed in Geneva (Switzerland) in August 1930 on the initiative of Dr. Lena Madesin Phillips after goodwill tours to Europe by members of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs of the United States of America (presently BPW/USA). The members of the U.S. Federation wanted to share their beliefs with gainfully employed women in business and the professions in other countries and promote mutual understanding and friendship worldwide. Founder member countries besides the United States of America were Austria, Canada, France, Great Britain and Italy. Dr. Lena Madesin Philips was elected first International President and served as such until 1947.

The BPWI is one of the world's most influential organizations, non-partisan and non-sectarian, promoting its objectives without distinction as to race, language or religion. It is the recognized voice of gainfully employed women representing workers and employers in all professions and occupations.
HER STORY
You may not necessarily guess it from any history book, but women do have a past! And a glorious one at that, with all the pioneers and politicians, the leaders and entrepreneurs, the artists and scientists-in every culture, on every continent! All we need to do is become aware of the pioneers who paved the way for the women of today.
As activists, they showed courage and wisdom; as mentors, they encouraged and inspired.
